Our 1st Annual Christmas Meal

Last night 16 of us went to the Hare Arms at Stow Bardolph for our Christmas meal. We had a wonderful evening, with lovely food, great service and exceptional company. The menu was extensive and everyone ate really well. When it got to coffee time, we distributed the secret santa gifts. It's amazing what you can buy with a £5 limit! There were candles, mugs, smellies, doggy treats, a tablecloth, chocolates, plants and lots more. Photos below......

The first ones are taken in the bar where we congregated before the meal.

Knitting at High Haven Care Home

This morning, four of our group spent some time at High Haven knitting and chatting with a group of ladies who live there. Olive and Beryl have been knitting squares to makes into blankets.

We also met Pat, Mary, Sue and Jane their care worker. Beryl told us about the lace making she used to teach at evening classes. Elizabeth had made a delicious chocolate cake for us all, and we were also served with coffee. There was a lovely peaceful atmosphere, and the ladies are obviously well cared for. We hope to go again before long.

Well, well, well we have made it to the list of recommended blogs for beginners to blogging, that appeared in this month's Let's Knit magazine. Wow, what an accolade. Here's the page it appears on:

St Mungo's Project completed

I have just got back from Downham Post Office, where I posted our parcel of orange woolly hats for St Mungo's Woolly Hat Day on 26th October. We managed 25 hats in all.

This is a great cause. In addition, St Mungo's are currently auctioning celebrity hats on eBay for the appeal. Already, Neil Tennant (Pet Shop Boys) is at £1,727.00, and Eric Clapton's is at £770.00. They are the two highest ones right now. The auction ends next weekend. All money raised is for the charity.

Downham Community Fair

Downham Market Community Fair took place in the Town Hall today, and we were there! We had some of our St Mungo's woolly hats on show. We sold yarn, patterns, books, and Donna brought some of her stitch markers and project bags. The highlight of the day was the little boy who hovered on and off throughout the morning and eventually admitted to wanting to learn to knit! Go Leon! The lovely Matthew Usher from the EDP arrived in time to record the moment!

Monday's online EDP24  had these photos on their website (and the one of Sheila is in the paper too):

Ally Pally!

Yesterday, eight of our group went to the Alexandra Palace Knit and Stitch Show. Five of us went by Harrod's coach and five went by train. We all got there about 1/4 to 11, and arranged to meet at 1 for lunch under the large blue window in the main hall.

It was quite an experience! Plenty of diversity to keep us all happy all day. I was pleased to meet up with Stewart and Richard (Maid Fibre) who were sharing Alpaca Select's stall. Bellow is Isabel, with Sheila and Richard.

The coach passengers came away at 4.30 and were home for 7.15. The train travellers caught a later train, and got back to Downham at 9.40! A very long day.

September evening and more orange hats

We had three new ladies tonight... 13 of us altogether, which was an excellent turn out as this was the first dark evening meeting. More orange hats were brought. Here are some of us modelling them.

Pebbles the-cat-next-door and St Mungo's

I've been getting some help (or is it hindrance) this week with my woolly hat knitting. Pebbles isn't our cat. He lives next door, but visits from time to time. One evening this week he settled down right on top of my orange wool. He looks so cute I can't get annoyed with him.

Here he is sporting my child size hat. He was a bit disgruntled, so I had to snap this shot quickly. Can't blame him really.

This is my 2nd hat for Woolly Hat Day, which this year is on 26th October. It came out smaller than my previous one, as I made a mess with the decreases. Hat #3 next.
